Plant World Seeds

I was sent a catalogue a few years ago with the journal of the Hardy Plant Society, one of the customer comments was that unlike seed from other suppliers, seed from Plant World germinated readily, well they would say that wouldn't they? Well I am here to tell you that it is true, after years of failure, (although there was the odd success), with anything slightly out of the ordinary purchased from the "big names" I had almost a 100% success rate with the seed I bought from Plant World. They are the best supplier I have found so far for less readily available perennial seeds. I am sure that the secret is that the seed is fresh.

Cambo Estate
Supplier of 'in the green' snowdrops and other spring bulbs - excellent.
Cambo Estate
Thompson and Morgan
Seeds and plug plants. I have been buying from them for years and although I would only use them for 'standard seeds' now, they are as good as any of the other big merchants. I have bought some plugs from them, as I find it easier and cheaper than having to raise my own bedding from seed.

Mr. Fothergill's Seeds
I have bought seed from Mr Fothergill's with mixed results, they are generally no better nor worse than any of the 'big names'.

Gardening Direct
I have used them for a few years and found them OK for plugs etc. However, they let me down badly so I won't be using them again.

Jelitto Seeds
Tremendous range of perennial seeds which are also offered in larger quantities for commercial use. Their GOLD NUGGET range has truly phenomenal rates of germination. Although they showed something similar on their website I actually did a comparison a few years ago with some
Primula candelabra hybrids seed from a leading UK merchant and the Jelitto Golden Nugget Seed, the result of which you can clearly see below. Both were sown at the same time under the same conditions!

Chiltern Seeds
Used them from as long ago as before they moved although for some reason I have not bought from them for many years. Chiltern Seeds have a fantastic range all at value for money prices.

Nicky's Seeds
Large range of seeds and complimentary garden items. The few seeds I have bought have been perfectly good.

Two Wests and Elliot
Horticultural goods, greenhouses. They carry a large range and have always been efficient.

The Garden Superstore
I have only bought plant pots from this company but service and delivery has always been 100%.
The Garden Superstore
Shrubs Direct (Grasslands)

Cheshire nursery which has expanded massively over the last six years that I have been using them, excellent value for money although the labeling can be a bit erratic at times. Although the range is limited I continue to use Grasslands and have found the service and delivery excellent.

Long Acre Plants
Excellent and interesting site for the shade specialist, I have had three orders from them and other than a slight mix up in the labeling of some primulas everything was fine including a contact 'phone call when I placed the first order.

J. Parkers Dutch Bulbs
I have used Parkers for a number of years and particularly more so recently, so far service and quality has been excellent for both bulbs and plug plants. Unfortunately I am now able to report that I have been extremely disappointed with my purchases over this last year (September 2011), the bulbs were only average, and the plants were sub-standard, in the last delivery I had they even included two camellias which I can only assume were some sort of compensation because they knew they were sending out inferior produce. I will now go back to T&M as they are the only supplier that has not let me down so far. (see Gardening Direct)

Crocus
I always used to think of Crocus as being a bit too expensive for what they have to offer, I don't know whether they have had a reality check but I have bought from them a couple of times now and have found them reasonable albeit on special offers but the service and presentation of goods has been excellent and will use again.

Penlan Perennials
Excellent nursery offering real value for money plants in 1Litre pots instead of the more common, quick to turn round, 9cm pots offered by most specialist nurseries. The delivery and service is excellent, the only drawback can be a limit to the number of plants allowed on more scarce items.

Garden Direct
I have used this company a couple of times and have been very satisfied so far. They stock an interesting range of fertilizers for every occasion and the prices are acceptable but not all that attractive. One thing to be aware of delivery can be anything up to 21 days if you are used to more efficient sites.
